A.Jensen Phantom
OverzichtNEW NEW NEW
finesse. De Phantom doet de concurrentie verbleken. The Best of
the Best!
En zoals altijd bij A.Jensen is
ook deze A.Jensen Phantom hengel geschikt voor de vliegvisserij op
het zoute water. Dus denk ook aan de zeeforel, zeebaars
etc.
helft achteraf. Daar hebben we dan even contact over per mail
of app.
A.Jensen says:
The Phantom rods are our new top model, build to meet the standards
and needs (and maybe even beyond) of the modern fisherman, no
matter if you fish in salt or in freshwater.
We have included knowledge from a bunch of different specialists like Striper Guides in the Northeast of the US, Seatrout fishermen from Denmark and Sweden, Pike specialists from Holland, Germany and Scandinavia and trout fishermen…..
These rods are built on the base of our former top model; Spook Stalker, but we have upgraded on all flanks, using the absolute best fittings and raw material on the market with absolutely “0” shortcuts. The blank is made of mega high density, unidirectional 45 + 50 ton IM8 Nano Carbon, and we have used SBD and AHT Technology to develop this super light powerhouse.
The action is unbelievably crisp, fast and powerful but still with that great sensitivity we build in all our rods.
To be fully honest; we must admit, that this model is one that we are really proud of!!!
We designed the rod to be matt black all over, even the guides, to avoid flare and spooking shy fish in skinny water. We have also added a layer of woven carbon to the lower part of the rod, to give extra power when needed, like when power casting or battling trophy fish…..and it looks astonishingly good too….
The blank is made with SBD (Slim Blank Design). SBD has many advantages. Blanks are very slim, so they generate less air resistance, something you can feel immediately when driving the rod through the air. As we use the same amount of material, as in a normal blank, the walls are thicker, hence the rod is stronger, and prevents “ovalization” much better, which in turn gives a more crisp and controlled action and maximum dampening of the rod tip. These features are an advantage in many situations, if not all, but maybe especially when tossing flies in the harsh and often windy saltwater environment.
We have used AHT in the blank. By our terms a fly rod is not just a casting tool, it should also be a tool for fishing. By that we mean it should be a joy to fish and play fish on as well. Many modern fast action rods are really just casting tools, as they are no fun to play a fish on, due to a super-stiff top action = minimum sensitivity. To avoid this, we use Advanced Helical Taper Technology (AHT). The “Advanced Helical Taper” technology means changing and opening the angle of the helical wound graphite towards the top. By using the same material, and still under the same number of tons of pressure as the rest of the blank, we get a rod, that performs with a unique balance.
The quick loading top has many benefits. When fishing shorter lines, such as when fishing dries and nymphs, you will have more accuracy and control.
When fishing Stillwater, both lakes and salts, you will with much ease, be able to shoot the first meters of line, as the rod actually cast the line right from the first false cast. There is no “waving” the rod, to get so much line out, that the rod actually loads and casts. Your casting strokes will be more balanced, as you get a rhythm right from the start of the cast. It will simply put feel easier. On top of that the rod is a light, correction… SUPER light and sensitive instrument, and an absolute joy to play a fish on. This brings us back to where we started – We make fishing rods, not just casting rods.
Among the models you will find two 8’ models. We have been working and developing on these 8’ rods for decades, and it has become something of a trademark of A.Jensen. These models we have designed especially with Saltwater and Predator fishing in mind. They are so light and yet so powerful, that it is hard to believe. We have landed anything from Tuna, Tarpon, Sailfish, Dorado, Seatrout, Striper and a long range of other saltwater species to freshwater species like Big Pike, Tigerfish, Peacock Bass, Catfish and even some hefty Carp on them, and they always come out on top!
If you have never tried one of these 8' rods before - well we can only urge you to try. Without saying too much, we dare to say that there is a good chance that they will change your opinion what the perfect length for a pike or saltwater rod is.........The 8' models are really powerful, and you get an incredible line speed with them - which will give you long casts, even with big wind-resistant flies and high back casts that keeps clear of the back. When you lift them for the first time, you will probably think they feel almost too light, like several classes lighter, but that all changes when the line starts flying, and if a big fish takes your fly and brute power is needed, then it really demonstrates its "rhino" backbone.

Review
Phantom 7 wt with quick shoot
Having fly-fished for the past 40 years i have come to love my fast rods from Scott, NAM, T&T and Winston (Saltwater Air). I usually pair them with longer head lines which are on the lighter side as this suits my slightly hectic nature and my urge to hold a considerable amount of line out in the air.
At the end of last year I have come across the A. Jensen Phantom paired with the quick shoot sink 7 line and I completely failed to cast this combination. Do not get me wrong i got it out there but it was not pretty.
So I decided not to be beaten by a rod line combination and bought a Jensen rod and the quick shoot this year …… one of my best decisions ever when it comes to fly fishing.
Of course, i had to adjust my casting style in terms of learning to use much less force compared to my other rods once you learn to be fast and super smooth at the same time this rod works like a charm with its deeper action. This rod is not slow it just bends more and the power comes from much lower in the blank compared to my other rods. In one word the action is very smooth with a lot of power you would not expect initially from low in the blank.
Having fished this rod for sea trout for a month or so I really hate to admit that it has grown on me so much.
There are a couple of advantages that even my stubborn nature apart from being slightly hectic this is cannot ignore.
No backspace no problem is one of them this comes in handy at the Swedish west coast and has opened up a couple new spots for me.
The other advantage is you are very quick especially fishing for rising trout in the surface this is a huge plus …. one roll cast to get the head straight on the surface - one back cast and the final presentation cast flies out. If you do everything right you easily shoot the entire line with ease using surprisingly little effort and all is done in a matter of seconds.
There is no chance that I will sell my other beloved rods any time soon but the Jensen definitely has become one of them now.
I think this says a lot especially coming from someone who
has fished stiffer fast action rods for most of his fishing
life.
About A.Jensen Flyrods
ONE OF THE TRADEMARKS OF THE A. JENSEN RODS IS THE TIME WE SPEND ON EACH MODEL BEFORE IT ENTERS THE MARKET. WE WILL RATHER TAKE ONE YEAR EXTRA WITH THE TEST TEAM AND DESIGNERS, THAN FORCE PRODUCTS INTO THE MARKET, THAT WE DON’T HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE IN.
WE DESIGN OUR RODS, BASED ON A PRACTICAL ANGLE TO FLYFISHING. FIRST OF ALL WE ARE FLYFISHERS OURSELF, AND WE WORK WITH THE AIM TO MAKE GREAT EQUIPMENT, IN ORDER FOR YOU TO EXPERIENCE MORE EFFECTIVE FISHING AND MOST IMPORTANT MORE JOY IN FLYFISHING.
BY OUR TERMS A FLY ROD IS NOT JUST A CASTING TOOL, BUT A TOOL FOR FISHING.
By that, we mean that it should handle both the casting and the
joy of fishing and playing a fish at the same time.
Besides that, we wanted to create rods, that are able to cast both
long lines and shorter lines with full control, as this is one of
the crucial aspects of flyfishing. With many modern flyrods, you
only get the rod properly loaded, with a lot of line outside the
top, and only from that point on will you cast with full control.
We want our rods to load with short lines, but still be able to
cast long lines.
In order to achieve what we want we make a so-called “compensated
tip”, meaning a tip that loads quickly. One could make the top of
softer material, but then you get a rod action, that feels strange
when casting.
Instead, we use “Advanced Helical Taper” technology and thereby
create a rod, where the top of the rod loads quickly, without being
soft. The “Advanced Helical Taper” technology means changing
and opening the angle of the helical wound graphite towards the
top. By using the same material, and still under the same amount of
tons of pressure as the rest of the blank, we get a rod, that
performs with a unique balance.
The quick loading top has many benefits. When fishing shorter lines, such as when fishing dries and nymphs, you will have more accuracy and control.
When fishing stillwaters, both lakes and salts, you will with much ease be able to shoot the first meters of line, as the rod actually cast the line right from the first false cast. There is no “waving” the rod, to get so much line out, that the rod actually loads and casts. Your casting strokes will be more balanced, as you get the rhythm right from the start of the cast. It will simply put feel easier. On top of that the rod is a light and sensitive instrument, and an absolute joy to play a fish on. This brings us back to where we started – We want to make a fishing rod, not just a casting rod.
Warranty
